The National Runaway Safeline (NRS) is proud to announce this month’s organization of the month, SAMHSA, or Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
SAMHSA is one of our 7,000 resources in our database dedicated to helping people find the proper substance abuse or mental health assistance in the caller’s area and is also the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that is dedicated to advancing the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA is not limited to any specific age and has a hotline available 24/7, just like ours.
Every day, we receive calls from youth and adults who have dealt with or are dealing with either substance abuse issues, or mental health issues. Our biggest concern is making sure that our callers know that they have options, and are aware of SAMHSA as a resource in a non-directive manner.
According to SAMHSA’s website, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA’s mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities.
SAMHSA Strategic Initiatives help provide treatment and services for people with mental and substance use disorders, support the families of people with mental and substance use disorders, build strong and supportive communities, prevent costly behavioral health problems, and promote better health for all Americans.
NRS is honored to name SAMHSA as our May Organization of the Month. We appreciate the services they provide for youth in crisis.
